SPIRE 2006 is the thirteenth edition of the Symposium on String Processing and Information Retrieval. The first four editions were called WSP (South American Workshop on String Processing). Since 1998 the focus of the symposium was broadened to include information retrieval. Starting in 2000 Europe has been the conference venue on even years.
